Jeuveau®
Botox® has been around for decades, helping people smooth out lines and wrinkles. It isn’t your only option for injectable neuromodulators, however. Jeuveau® is a more recent addition to the anti-wrinkle toolbox. Since receiving FDA approval in 2019, Jeuveau® has been nicknamed “NewTox” as it has quickly gained popularity like its predecessor.
What is Jeuveau®?
Like Botox®, Jeuveau® is an injectable treatment for wrinkles made with botulinum toxin. Unlike Botox® and similar brands, Jeuveau® is the first botulinum toxin injectable formulated solely for aesthetic purposes. It is FDA-approved to treat moderate to severe frown lines.
This neurotoxin temporarily paralyzes targeted facial muscles, causing them to relax and smooth out dynamic wrinkles. When your facial muscles make repetitive movements daily to smile, frown, or squint, they can eventually form dynamic wrinkles. The botulinum toxin blocks nerve signals, stopping these repetitive muscle movements. As the muscles relax, your dynamic wrinkles disappear.
The Jeuveau® formula is very similar to Botox®, more so than its other competitors like Dysport® and Xeomin®. Still, its unique differences may make it more effective for some patients. The Langdon Center offers Botox®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau®. Dr. Langdon will help you determine which of these neuromodulators is best for you during a detailed consultation. Jeuveau® is typically used for frown lines, also known as glabellar lines or “elevens.” However, it may also be used for other dynamic wrinkles, such as forehead wrinkles or lines around the mouth.
