Microneedling

Non-Surgical Face Microneedling

Our skin has an impressive ability to heal itself. It’s constantly creating new collagen fibers and replacing old, damaged cells with healthy new ones. However, this process can’t keep up with the effects of time and sun damage forever. Microneedling is an innovative treatment that harnesses your body’s natural healing process to rejuvenate the skin and restore a bright, radiant complexion.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that uses tiny, sterile needles to puncture the skin. Also known as collagen induction therapy, this process creates controlled micro-injuries that stimulate the body’s natural healing response, producing new collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are essential proteins that provide strength, elasticity, and structure to the skin. By increasing these proteins, microneedling helps rejuvenate the skin.

Though it is most often a facial rejuvenation treatment, microneedling can be performed on various parts of the body, including the neck, décolletage, and hands.

Microneedling is a popular choice to address multiple skin concerns, including:

Frequently Asked Questions

There are several types of microneedling devices, some with different lengths of needles or added technology like radiofrequency energy. Regardless of the device used, microneedling is a quick, convenient procedure that typically takes less than an hour. We will apply a topical numbing cream to your skin to minimize any discomfort.

Microneedling treatments at the Langdon Center can be customized to each patient’s unique needs and skin type. During a detailed consultation with Dr. Langdon, he will evaluate your skin and discuss your goals to help you determine which microneedling options are most suitable.

SkinPen® Microneedling

SkinPen® is the first FDA-cleared microneedling device. It uses hair-thin needles to cause micro-injuries that trigger collagen and elastin production, improving overall skin health. SkinPen® has been clinically proven and rigorously tested for safety and effectiveness.

AquaGold® fine touch™

AquaGold® is a microinjection device that causes controlled damage to the skin to promote collagen production, like microneedling, while also infusing the skin with beneficial serums. The handheld device has a small vial containing a personalized blend of vitamins, moisturizers, antioxidants, and other skincare ingredients. These are then delivered through extremely fine needles into the skin’s superficial layers.

Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling

Microneedling is an effective skin rejuvenation treatment on its own, but it can have even greater results when combined with radiofrequency energy. RF energy heats up the dermis, which boosts the healing response and has a tightening effect. The result is even greater collagen production and smoother, firmer skin.

No matter which microneedling procedure you undergo, recovery is short and easy. Microneedling doesn’t require any downtime, but your skin may be a little red and irritated. It may appear as though you have a sunburn. This redness should subside in a day or two, and you can cover it up with gentle mineral makeup.

If you receive an AquaGold® treatment, you should wait to wash your face for a few hours to allow the serums time to absorb. Your skin will be more sensitive while it heals. This makes it essential to avoid sun exposure, wear sunscreen, keep your skin moisturized, and avoid harsh products after microneedling.

Patients typically see a brighter, healthier complexion within a couple of weeks of their first microneedling treatment. However, most people need multiple sessions for optimal results. Depending on your unique skin concerns, we typically recommend three or more treatments. Issues like acne scars and wrinkles may require more treatments.

Once you achieve your desired outcome, you can expect your microneedling results to last several months. A maintenance session every few months can give you long-term results. Microneedling can also boost the effectiveness of your skincare products, so pairing microneedling treatments with medical-grade skincare can provide even more benefits.

Microneedling is a safe, minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatment ideal for most healthy adults. It is safe for all skin types and tones. Patients with darker skin tones may benefit from RF microneedling as an alternative to laser skin resurfacing.

From signs of aging to acne scars to enlarged pores, microneedling is a versatile treatment that can improve many common skin concerns. Dr. Langdon will help you determine if microneedling is the right treatment for you and whether AquaGold®, SkinPen®, or RF microneedling will be most effective. He may not recommend microneedling for patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a skin infection, or have certain medical conditions.
