Why are Stem Cells Important?
August 28, 2021
The signs of aging can manifest in various ways that make it difficult to pinpoint exactly what you can do to fix the problem. You may not think fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity have much to do with undereye circles, but they are all part of normal aging. That does not mean you have to accept a dull complexion or dark circles. Dr. Robert Langdon, founder and director of The Langdon Center for Laser & Cosmetic Surgery, stays on the cusp of innovation in the aesthetics industry, and he can rejuvenate your skin using stem cells.
What are Stem Cells?
Stem cells are remarkable in that they are essentially progenitor cells that can give rise to new, more specialized cells. Dr. Langdon uses stem cells to regenerate and repair dysfunctional, damaged, or injured tissues to revitalize your skin’s appearance and improve dark hollows under your eyes.
Stem cells are the only cell in the body with the natural ability to become a new cell type. Using stem cells in cosmetic medicine can potentially revolutionize many treatments, including rejuvenation of the skin.
How Does Stem Cell Skin Rejuvenation Work?
Dr. Langdon begins stem cell skin rejuvenation by harvesting about 20 CCs of fat from your abdomen, thighs, or flanks.
This fat sample contains stem cells (technically, adipose-derived stem cells), that are separated from the fat cells and placed into a specially designed injection system. The prepared cells are then strategically injected into areas of your face where you have dull-looking skin, under the eyes to improve dark circles, and around the nose and mouth to improve the appearance of nasolabial folds and marionette lines.
Stem cells develop into the cells that the treatment area lacks to improve skin health, lost volume, and your overall tone and complexion. The injections contain only donor material from your body, so there’s almost no chance of rejection or complications from your skin rejuvenation treatment.

Am I a Good Candidate for Stem Cell Skin Rejuvenation?
If dull skin has become a greater concern, or you have noticed dark circles under your eyes and lost volume, stem cell skin rejuvenation may be the treatment for you. Dr. Langdon can answer any questions you may have during your comprehensive consultation.
What Results Can I Expect from Stem Cell Skin Rejuvenation?
The treatment itself takes between 1-2 hours to complete while the fat is harvested and the stem cells extracted and prepared for reintroduction into your tissues. While it is not uncommon in the days following treatment for undereye dark circles for patients to experience those circles darkening, they will lighten and become lessy noticeable soon after. This is because stem cells suspend melanin production in the treatment area, and existing melanin must be cleared away before lightening is noticeable.
The rest of your improvements will include a smoother skin texture and more even facial tone. Skin is plumper and looks healthier because stem cells are replacing damaged cells. You will appear more alert, refreshed, and rested once the dark circles begin to diminish. The good news is how long-lasting the results are. Because they are your own cells, stem cells become the tissues you need most, and they reintegrate into your tissues and skin structures, becoming part of your rejuvenated skiny.
Your skin stays beautifully even and smoother for longer, with fewer wrinkles and tighter skin that keep you looking young and vibrant!
