What is the Difference Between Sculptra® and Radiesse®?
May 1, 2024
At the Langdon Center, we recognize that patients need cosmetic treatments that are not only effective but convenient and realistic for their busy lifestyles. That’s why we offer numerous injectable treatment options that are quick, easy, and still yield great results. Radiesse® and Sculptra® are two of our popular dermal fillers.
What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers like Radiesse® and Sculptra® are gel-like injectables that enhance facial features and reduce signs of aging. These are just two of our many dermal filler brands, including Juvederm®, Restylane®, and Bellafill®. Each dermal filler brand has unique advantages.
Though exact formulas and effects differ, dermal fillers aim to add subtle volume to smooth out wrinkles, fill in hollow areas, or augment facial features. We offer a wide range of filler options so we can personalize every patient’s treatment to their facial structure and aesthetic goals.

Sculptra® vs. Radiesse®: What’s the Difference?
Sculptra® and Radiesse® stand out from many popular alternatives because they aren’t made with hyaluronic acid (HA). Although some patients love the hydrating benefits of HA fillers, others find better success with alternatives like Sculptra® and Radiesse®. These fillers share some similarities but also have a few notable differences.
What are Sculptra® and Radiesse® made of?
Radiesse® is a calcium-based filler, while Sculptra® is made with poly-L-lactic acid. CaHA, or calcium hydroxylapatite, is a biocompatible substance found in bones. Microspheres of CaHA give Radiesse® a firmer, thicker quality than other fillers.
Radiesse® primarily works by adding immediate volume with its thick gel, but it also helps stimulate collagen production. Sculptra®, on the other hand, is specially formulated to increase collagen in the skin. Poly-L-lactic acid helps your skin create new collagen for improved tone, texture, and volume.
Treatment areas for Sculptra® and Radiesse®
Both these fillers are approved for treating wrinkles and volume loss. They are ideal for marionette lines, nasolabial folds, and chin wrinkles. We may also use Sculptra® or Radiesse® for volume loss in the cheeks.

Results of Sculptra® and Radiesse®
One of the main differences between Sculptra® and Radiesse® is how soon you see results and how long they last. Radiesse® results are immediate, while Sculptra® results develop gradually over several weeks. This is because it takes time for your skin to produce more collagen in response to Sculptra® injections.
Sculptra® is one of the longest-lasting fillers. Radiesse® lasts approximately one year, and Sculptra® often lasts over two years. You can have maintenance treatments as needed with either of these fillers to prolong your results.
