What Is Microneedling Good For?
March 20, 2023
Wondering about minimally invasive treatment options for all your skin concerns? Microneedling can rejuvenate your skin, so it looks firmer, healthier, and smoother. Also called collagen induction therapy, this treatment triggers your skin’s natural healing mechanisms to increase collagen production and improve the skin’s health and texture.
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a highly effective way to improve collagen production. Collagen, a protein the skin needs to maintain its firmness and structure, decreases with age. Microneedling creates tiny channels in the skin to stimulate a healing response that increases collagen development. It also signals the growth of healthy new skin cells that brighten and smooth the skin.
What is Microneedling Good For?
Microneedling can treat a wide range of skin concerns. It is one of the most effective ways to generate new collagen with minimal downtime. Dr. Langdon and his team recommend microneedling to treat:
- Lines and wrinkles
- Skin laxity
- Acne scars
- Enlarged pores
- Dull skin
- Textural issues
- Hyperpigmentation
- Uneven skin tone.
Microneedling offers an effective way to address numerous skin issues with long-lasting results. Microneedling benefits individuals of almost any age, from young people hoping to treat rough skin and acne scars to older individuals who want to restore skin firmness and resilience.
How Many Microneedling Treatments Will I Need?
You will need a series of treatments to achieve maximum collagen production. Most people benefit from between four and eight sessions. The number of treatments needed depends on several factors, including the type of skin concerns treated. General rejuvenation and firming may require fewer treatments than deep textural issues like acne scars and fine lines.
Results become visible within a few weeks. They will continue to improve for up to three months as your skin cells add collagen. Most people schedule a maintenance treatment every year or two in order to prolong their results.

Is There Any Downtime With Microneedling?
Minimally invasive microneedling requires no downtime. Most people can return to their normal activities immediately after treatment. Some mild redness, swelling, and sensitivity may occur but should fade within a day or two. We recommend avoiding sun exposure, harsh or irritating products, and scrubs or exfoliants for several days until your skin fully recovers. Consistent sun protection will keep UV rays from degrading your new collagen.
Am I a Good Candidate for Microneedling?
Most people are good candidates for microneedling. Unlike many types of lasers, microneedling uses no energy, making it safe for all skin types and tones. Ideal candidates for microneedling have reasonable expectations and no major health issues. You may not be a good candidate for microneedling if you have a skin infection or a tendency to develop keloids.
