What Is Blepharoplasty?
December 20, 2020
When a person starts to age, changes to their facial appearance often become more noticeable. In particular, some people will notice excessive saggy skin around their upper eyelids. Sometimes, such excess skin can compromise a person’s line of sight. In addition, the lower eyelids can become puffy, giving the appearance of “bags” below the eyes.
The best way to reverse those aging effects is with a blepharoplasty or eyelid lift. Dr. Robert Langdon, a double board-certified cosmetic surgeon and dermatologist, carries out eyelid lift procedures at The Langdon Center in Guilford, CT.

Laser Blepharoplasty at The Langdon Center
The process of blepharoplasty or an ‘eyelid lift procedure’ involves removing excess fatty tissue and/or sagging skin from the eyelids. Once the eyelid lift surgery is complete, patients experience a more youthful look and, in some cases, better line of sight vision.
Dr. Langdon offers laser blepharoplasty at The Langdon Center. With laser blepharoplasty, both the upper and lower eyelids can be treated. A CO2 laser is used as a surgical instrument instead of a scalpel. Because the CO2 laser beam seals the blood vessels as it makes an incision, there is considerably less bruising after the procedure compared to conventional blepharoplasty using a scalpel. The average treatment time is 90-120 minutes, and requires a few days of downtime.
Benefits of Blepharoplasty
If you want to address cosmetic concerns relating to your eyelids, such as sagging or drooping skin, puffy eyes or a “tired” look, a blepharoplasty will help you achieve that goal. Each year, thousands of Americans enjoy the prolonged benefits of blepharoplasty. Because people you interact with focus primarily on the eye area, improving the appearance of the eyelids can have a great rejuvenative effect. After your blepharoplasty, you will experience vibrant, youthful-looking eyes and a more alert and energetic appearance.
Dr. Langdon has extensive experience with laser blepharoplasty procedures (since 1995). And because no scalpel gets used in the procedure, patients do not experience “black eyes” after surgery for several weeks. Realistically, laser blepharoplasty results in patients looking great after only a week.

Am I a Candidate for Blepharoplasty?
Patients make good candidates for natural blepharoplasty procedures if they are unhappy with their eyelids’ appearance due to the effects of aging. Both men and women can have a laser eyelid lift at The Langdon Center.
There is no denying that puffy eyes, excess skin, and fat around the eyelids can damage a person’s self-confidence. Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery addresses those problems and results in long-lasting improvements in all patients.
If you are frustrated with the appearance of your eyelids, and you always look tired even though you are well-rested, a laser blepharoplasty could be right for you. The procedure should be avoided by patients that are pregnant or actively nursing.
“I was an eye model in my 20’s so when my lids began to droop I knew I had to do something about it. I researched extensively and found Dr. Langdon to be the best Doctor to touch my eyes. I drive over an hour each way to get to his office. It’s been totally worth it. I am so happy with my eyes. My eyes look 20 years younger.”
