What is the Best Laser for Scar Reduction?
December 22, 2019
Scars can be embarrassing, regardless of their cause or where they are located on your body. If you have scars from acne, injuries, or any other cause, you should know that there are ways to reduce them. Here at The Langdon Center, we offer several different laser treatments that may improve your scars and help you feel more confident. Read on for more information about each treatment.
*Individual Results May Vary
Fractional C02 Laser
The Enhanced ActiveFX C02 and DeepFX laser resurfacing treatments can be performed separately or combined to provide you with significant scar reduction results. During the Enhanced ActiveFX treatment, a laser scanner distributes laser energy evenly over your face at a fast rate and with enough heat to tighten the skin. This allows the skin to contract and leads to more dramatic results.
The DeepFX treatment penetrates even deeper into the skin to reduce the appearance of severe scars. You can expect to see results after just one treatment. DeepFX may be a good option if you’d like to achieve significant improvement in scarring with only one treatment.
Fraxel Laser
The Fraxel laser uses microscopic spots of laser energy to penetrate even deeper into the skin to stimulate the production of new collagen and create a smoother surface contour. Fraxel laser treatments can also reduce surface pigmentation that can result from sun damage or acne scars. Typical Fraxel laser treatments of the full face take about 20 to 40 minutes to complete; noticeable results can be seen after one treatment. If you are facing mild to moderate acne scars, this treatment may be a good option for you.

Picosecond Laser Treatment
Dr. Langdon uses two separate picosecond (ultra-short pulse) lasers to treat facial acne scars. These are the PicoSure and the PiQo4 lasers. These lasers work through a special “shock wave” technology to gently stimulate new collagen to smooth acne and other scars. Another bonus: pigmented acne scars can respond quickly to these laser treatments.
Laser Resurfacing
During a laser resurfacing treatment, a process known as ablation safely removes the superficial layers of your skin. Pulses of laser energy are absorbed by the skin which is then vaporized, removing a thin layer. With healing new, healthy skin will be revealed. Laser resurfacing is a surgical treatment that may make sense if you have very deep scars.
Lasers Can Improve, Rather Than Eliminate Scars
It’s important to understand that there is no treatment that will completely remove a scar you may have. However, laser treatments can make them less noticeable and help you feel more confident in your own skin. You can count on Dr. Langdon to evaluate your unique scars and design a customized treatment plan.
Great friendly staff. I had the Picosure laser done, and it made a huge difference with my acne scarring in just two treatments. I can’t wait to go back for more!!
