What is a Stem Cell?

April 3, 2021

When it comes to advanced skincare, you may have noticed that “stem cells” seem to come up a lot.

But what exactly is a stem cell? And how can it be incorporated into a skincare treatment?

What is a Stem Cell?

Think of a stem cell as the foundation for all the other cells within your body. It acts as the raw material from which other cells are built; in fact, stem cells help dictate the roles and functions other cells will play within your body.

Stem cells are highly replicable under the right conditions. In laboratories, stem cells can create more versions of themselves (known as “daughter stem cells”). Once made, these daughter stem cells can go on to create two additional types of cells:

  • New stem cells for self-renewal; or
  • New specialized cells

These specialized cells can vary in function and definition; for example, some specialized cells can become blood cells, bone cells, and more.

Stem cells are unique in that no other type of cell can do this; this is why stem cells make up the foundation of our Stem Cell Skin Rejuvenation treatment!

What is Stem Cell Skin Rejuvenation?

Stem Cell Skin Rejuvenation is an innovative treatment that uses your body’s own stem cells and fat tissue to provide total skin rejuvenation, especially to the facial region.

Here’s how it works: During your Stem Cell Skin Rejuvenation treatment, about 20 CCs of fat is removed from your body (typically from the abdomen or thigh). Stem cells are then separated from the fat tissue and placed in a special injector instrument, which will be used to deliver the stem cells directly to the treatment area.

Am I a Good Candidate for Stem Cell Skin Rejuvenation?

Stem Cell Skin Rejuvenation is a good choice for people who have facial wrinkles and fine lines, are starting to notice skin sagging, or have a tired, fatigued appearance.

Stem Cell Skin Rejuvenation is commonly used to treat the following facial areas:

  • Midfacial region
  • Underneath the eyes
  • Around the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds)
  • “Crows feet” area

I have had a couple procedures at Dr Langdon’s practice. I have been very happy with the results. Dr Langdon and staff are both knowledgeable and professional.
