Is There Downtime Associated with Laser Tattoo Removal?

June 18, 2019

Do you have a tattoo that you wish you no longer had? If so, you may be a good candidate for laser tattoo removal. Here at the Langdon Center, we can use the state-of-the-art PicoSure laser to completely remove your tattoo

Once your PicoSure treatments are complete, you can enjoy smooth, beautiful skin and no longer have to live with a piece of art you don’t want on your body. If you’re wondering whether there is any downtime associated with laser tattoo removal, keep reading to learn how this revolutionary treatment works.

How Laser Tattoo Removal Works

If you undergo laser tattoo removal, you can expect the PicoSure laser to transmit short pulses of heat energy into your skin. These pulses work to get rid of the tattoo ink under your skin. As soon as your tattoo ink particles are broken apart, they’ll be naturally absorbed in your body and your tattoo will disappear.

The PicoSure laser allows for tattoos to fade quicker and with fewer treatments than conventional lasers. Contrary to popular belief, laser tattoo removal does not come with extensive downtime. While each treatment may lead to minor swelling and redness, the downtime is typically less than five days. This is great news if you lead a busy lifestyle and cannot take much time off due to work and/or family obligations.

How Many Laser Tattoo Removal Treatments are Necessary?

Unfortunately, you cannot expect your tattoo to be removed after only one treatment. While one treatment may fade the ink, you’ll likely require several treatments to completely remove the tattoo. The size and colors of the tattoo you’d like to remove will dictate how many treatments you’ll need. In most cases, black tattoos rare can be removed in less treatments than colored tattoos.

Good Candidates for Laser Tattoo Removal

If you have a tattoo that you wish to remove, you may be a good candidate for laser tattoo removal. You should be a non-smoker who is in general good health and has realistic expectations. The PicoSure laser can may be effective for patients with black or colored tattoos, regardless of skin color or type.

I had an old tattoo I wanted removed, and with the latest laser technology, Dr. Langdon made it happen. Thank you
