How to Fix a Weak Chin
May 5, 2022
A receding or weak chin can make your neck look fuller and disrupt the balance of your facial features. A chin implant surgery can provide a stronger, more contoured chin that brings harmony to your face and defines your neck and jaw. While you can add some volume to your chin with dermal fillers, an implant is a long-term, natural-looking solution that provides more enhancement.
How to Fix a Weak Chin
If you have a weak or receding chin, your other facial features may appear unbalanced. You have several options to address this appearance. Dermal fillers can add volume to the chin, but the results do not enhance the chin enough for many people. If your primary concern is the appearance of neck fullness, you might consider the injectable double chin treatment Kybella® or liposuction.
*Individual Results May Vary
If your goal is a more defined, stronger chin with better projection, a chin implant offers a natural-looking but significant improvement. Chin implant surgery uses a shaped silicone implant that looks and feels like your natural chin bone. Dr. Langdon often prefers an extended chin implant, which extends to the side of the chin and provides volume to “fill in” the pre-jowl sulcus. Dr. Langdon performs chin implant surgery at the Langdon Center for Laser & Cosmetic Surgery in Guilford, CT.
How Does Chin Implant Surgery Work?
Chin implant surgery usually takes place under local anesthesia with sedation. Dr. Langdon will use a small incision under the chin to place a silicone implant. He will place the implant under the muscle (next to the bone) for the most natural-looking results. This solid medical-grade implant will never leak or wear out and will typically not require adjustments.
Can I Have Chin Implant Surgery With Another Procedure?
You may have a chin implant with other procedures to improve your overall results. Liposuction of the neck and jowls can provide an even more dramatic improvement in contour. than a chin implant alone.
A chin implant can balance or enhance the profile changes from rhinoplasty (nose surgery). It can also improve the results of a neck lift or other procedures to tighten and contour the neck, jawline, and chin areas.

How Much Does Chin Implant Surgery Cost?

Dr. Langdon (and staff) makes me feel comfortable in consultation and during treatments, which was my biggest worry before going to the practice. Dr. Langdon is skillful and knowledgable. One suggestion would be to consider providing patients with a bit more care instructions and information on the treatment.
