How Long Do Microneedling Results Last?

February 15, 2021

Ever wonder how A-list celebrities and Instagram influencers get the kind of glowing skin that’s always camera ready?

Hint: It’s because they discovered the power of microneedling treatments.

Microneedling is a popular new treatment that helps produce radiant, younger-looking skin without surgery or stitches. The goal of microneedling is to activate your body’s reparative cells and stimulate collagen and elastin, two proteins which can improve your skin tone and minimize signs of aging.

Let’s take a closer look at this treatment, including how long your microneedling results may last.

How Microneedling Works

During a microneedling treatment, our expert providers will puncture micro-injuries in your skin with a special microneedling device. While you may feel a prickly sensation, actual pain should be minimal because of numbing from topical anesthetic cream. The purpose of these micro-injuries is to promote collagen and elastin production and give your skin and body tissue strength.

Microneedling is an excellent treatment choice if you’re looking to improve the clarity and tone of your skin, or if you’d like to fade signs of aging and sun damage.

How Long Do Microneedling Results Last?

It’s important to note that microneedling is not a permanent treatment. The good news is that microneedling results are long-lasting. If you’ve received a microneedling treatment and would like to maintain the results, we suggest visiting our office for treatments every quarter.

Many patients report that maintenance treatments paired with an effective home skin care regimen lead to increased effectiveness and prolonged microneedling results.

Good Candidates for Microneedling

Because microneedling is such a versatile treatment, it can benefit a variety of patients. If you’d like to improve skin imperfections such as fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, or acne scars, microneedling may be right for you.

We discourage this treatment if you’ve recently been treated with Accutane. You should also discontinue Retin-A treatment for a week after your microneedling treatment, because your skin will be more sensitive for a few days.

Dr. Langdon (and staff) makes me feel comfortable in consultation and during treatments, which was my biggest worry before going to the practice. Dr. Langdon is skillful and knowledgable. One suggestion would be to consider providing patients with a bit more care instructions and information on the treatment.
