How Can I Reduce Hyperpigmentation From Sun Damage?
February 24, 2020
If you’ve spent a lot of time in the sun, you may notice dark spots (hyperpigmentation) on your face and other sun-exposed areas. Whether you’re bothered by melasma or sun spots, The Langdon Center can reduce these common skin concerns. We offer a number of treatments that can give you the clearer, more radiant skin you’ve been longing for. Let’s take a closer look at what they are and how they work.
PiQo4 Laser
Known as the most powerful picosecond laser in the world, PiQo4 can do wonders for your sunspots. It generates four different laser wavelengths and includes a fractional mode that can concentrate energy in tiny spots to treat melasma.Â
It stimulates collagen and elastin and can take years off your face. PiQo4 laser treatments last a few minutes and don’t require any anesthesia. You’ll likely require multiple treatments to enjoy optimal results.Â
Fraxel Laser
The Fraxel laser is fractional laser that creates tiny microscopic spots of laser energy to treat approximately 20% of the surface area. The spots of laser energy penetrate deep into the skin and can improve even deep pigment conditions such as certain forms of melasma. The fractional laser energy also promotes new collagen production to smooth wrinkles and create a more youthful appearance. Typical Fraxel laser treatment takes anywhere between 20 and 40 minutes to complete, depending on the area you’d like treated. Four to six treatments about a month apart are ideal.

M22 System
The M22 system consists of the non-ablative fractional laser (ResurFX™) and an Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) system. The IPL uses pulsed light photo-rejuvenation to improve hyperpigmentation that results from sun damage. ResurFX™ can significantly reduce the appearance of sunspots and, like the Fraxel laser, will improve skin texture. Although there is no downtime, side effects include a bit of redness and swelling which resolves within a day or two.
Once you visit our office, we can evaluate your unique hyperpigmentation concerns and design a customized treatment plan. Fortunately, all of these options are non-invasive and offer minimal to no downtime so you don’t have to worry about any major disruptions to your daily life.
I was really satisfied with the laser resurfacing. I am almost 85 and people say I look at least 10 years younger. Dr. Langdon is wonderful and all his recommendations have been right on. I had lipo on my arms and they look great. I truly had a great experience at the Langdon center…MG
