Can an Eyelid Lift Be Done Without a Scalpel?
October 13, 2021
You may have heard about CO2 lasers resurfacing the skin to reverse sun damage, minimize acne scars, and improve skin’s tone and texture. But did you know CO2 lasers can also be used to perform eyelid lifts, or blepharoplasty? Dr. Robert Langdon, founder and director of The Langdon Center for Laser & Cosmetic Surgery, offers patients an alternative to the traditional scalpel procedure for blepharoplasty, which takes less time for recovery with beautiful, natural results.

How Does a Laser Eyelid Lift Work?
The purpose of a laser eyelid lift is to tighten the appearance of the eyes to refresh and restore them to an alert, youthful beauty. It works by using CO2 laser energy to create an incision in the crease of the upper eyelid while simultaneously coagulating small blood vessels for minimal bleeding. Dr. Langdon carefully removes excess skin to give the eye a more open, refreshed appearance and to remove excess puffiness.
A laserl eyelid lift can also address under-eye bags and puffiness through a laser-created incision inside the lower lid, called a trans-conjunctival incision. Dr. Langdon reduces the fat pads beneath the eye for a smoother, less tired appearance.
These techniques require less recovery time than traditional scalpel blepharoplasty because there’s much less bleeding, bruising, and swelling. Your results are equivalent to those of a traditional eyelid lift, with a more refreshed, less haggard appearance.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Laser Eyelid Lift?
During your comprehensive consultation, Dr. Langdon will discuss your medical history and current aesthetic goals to determine if CO2 laser blepharoplasty is an option. The best candidates are patients who have realistic expectations about what an eyelid lift can achieve for them and don’t smoke, as smoking impedes the healing process. Call today to get started.

How is the Procedure Performed?
Dr. Langdon will perform your laser eyelid lift in 1-2 hours. Because the laser cauterizes the blood vessels and minimizes bleeding, the surgical field is clearer, giving Dr. Langdon a better view of exactly what amount of correction is needed. He’s better able to ensure that the incision’s placement is precise, the amount of tissue removed is what’s required, and the skin is tightened in order to achieve the most natural, beautiful results.
Laser eyelid lifts are outpatient procedures, and you’ll be able to recover in the comfort of your home the same day. Ice packs and cold compresses are often all that’s required to reduce post-operative discomfort, which usually subsides in a day. Without much less bruising and swelling to recover from, you should be able to resume most of your normal schedule within 2-4 days. It may be up to 2 weeks before you’re cleared for more strenuous exercise.
What Results Can I Expect?
The beauty of the laser eyelid lift is that you don’t have to look past significant bruising and swelling to see your results right away. You can see immediately how much smoother, and more refreshed your eyes appear.
When we’re talking to others, it’s our eyes that receive the most attention. It’s how we as humans understand and interpret how our colleagues, friends, and loved ones feel. Dr. Langdon is triple board-certified in Dermatology, Cosmetic Surgery, and Facial Cosmetic Surgery, and with his talent and 34 years of experience, he can restore your eyes to their youthful glory and give you a smooth, refreshed appearance so you can put your best face forward.
