Loose Skin
After nine months, you’re probably eager to get back to your pre-baby body. Or, if your hard work has paid off and you’ve lost significant weight, naturally, you want to enjoy a slim, contoured figure! Unfortunately, you may instead find yourself with loose excess skin keeping you from your body goals. Dr. Langdon can help remove loose skin with innovative procedures at the Langdon Center.
Loose Skin After Weight Loss or Pregnancy
When your weight fluctuates, your skin has to stretch and shrink to accommodate. Though you may gain some stretch marks from the process, your skin’s elasticity should allow it to change along with you. However, significant weight loss or pregnancy may leave you with loose skin that doesn’t “snap back.” This is particularly likely if your skin has lost elasticity with age or if you lose weight quickly.
Many women struggle with a “belly pooch” that won’t budge after childbirth. People who lose a significant amount of weight often have the same problem, though the skin laxity can affect any part of the body they’ve lost fat. You might find yourself with flabby, sagging skin around your arms, torso, or thighs.
In addition to its effect on your appearance, loose skin can have other consequences on your well-being. Folds of excess skin can cause chafing and skin irritation, including eczema, rashes, sores, and infection. People with large amounts of loose skin may struggle with hygiene and physical activities.
