Cellulite
Does the skin around your butt and thighs have a dimpled, lumpy appearance? Cellulite is a common cosmetic concern, especially among women. Many people turn to diet and exercise to try and get rid of cellulite, only to feel more frustrated than ever when these efforts yield little difference. If you’re tired of cellulite and looking for an effective solution, it may be time for a consultation with board-certified cosmetic surgeon and dermatologist Dr. Langdon.
What is Cellulite?
Cellulite is a skin condition that results in uneven or dimpled skin. It most commonly occurs around the buttocks and thighs, but you can also get cellulite on your hips, abdomen, breasts, or upper arms. Though cellulite is completely harmless, many people don’t like its effect on their appearance.
Cellulite occurs when fat buildup creates tension in the connective fibers under your skin. When fat pushes against these fibrous bands, they pull down on the skin, creating a dimpling effect. If your skin is thin, cellulite may be even more pronounced because the corded connective tissues are visible under your skin. The appearance of cellulite is often compared to an orange peel or cottage cheese.
